What happens after you receive your Award Letter?

  1. You will be requested to confirm that you accept our fellowship offer as well as to provide your Indian bank account details. The latter is needed so that we can prepare the transfer of your fellowship fund on time.

  2. Once you accepted the fellowship offer, you have to contact your mentor in the UK institute and confirm the exact start and end date of your fellowship.

  3. As soon as the start date of your fellowship is agreed, you are recommended to start your visa application to the UK. Also, it is highly recommended to book your accommodation in the UK and your flight tickets no later than a month before the start date of your visit.

  4. After you booked your flight tickets and your visa application is accepted, please send all of your receipts to Andrea Móring. After processing your receipts, the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will transfer you your travel charges.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you need my bank account details right after I accept my fellowship offer?

Within the NEWS India-UK virtual centre, the University of Edinburgh is the responsible institute for the Fellowship, however, the awarded fellows will receive their living allowance from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU). To prepare and to send the funds to the fellows through IPU can take up to a month. Therefore, we can guarantee that you will receive your living allowance on time only if we collect the bank account details well before the start date of your fellowship.

I cannot accept my fellowship money until I got the permission from my home institute to do so. Can I provide you my bank account details after I received this permission?

No. Please, provide your bank account details as soon as possible after you accepted your fellowship offer! We will make sure that your fund will be released after you received the permission from your home institute. In this case please contact Andrea Móring so that we can make sure that your money will be transferred to your bank account when it is suitable for you.

Can I receive my money on my arrival to the UK?

No. The regulations of the University of Edinburgh do not allow to pay the living allowance to the awarded fellows directly. Therefore, the money is reimbursed to the fellows by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University before they start their fellowship in the UK.

Can I receive my money in cash?

No. We will transfer your money to your Indian bank account.

Can the hosting institute in the UK book the accommodation and the flight tickets for me?

No. The fellows are responsible for the booking of their own accommodation and flight tickets. The fellows will receive their living allowance well before the start date of their fellowship so that they can use this money to manage their bookings.
